Reflecting on an Extraordinary Year: Turning 40 and Beyond
As 2024 comes to a close, I can’t help but look back on what has been a truly extraordinary year for me. This year marked a milestone: my 40th birthday. Beyond the personal significance of entering a new decade, this year has been a whirlwind of professional growth, exciting collaborations, and meaningful milestones.
Swift Academy Podcast: A Global Journey
This year, I had the incredible opportunity to launch and grow the Swift Academy podcast. What started as a small passion project quickly turned into a global conversation about iOS development.
We kicked off with three episodes in French, featuring some of the most brilliant minds in the iOS community: Jérôme Alves, Frank Lefebvre, and Audrey Sobgou Zebaze. Their insights set the tone for what the podcast could become.
From there, I transitioned to hosting episodes in English, opening the door to guests from around the world. Vincent Pradeilles, Antoine Vanderlee, and Petros Efthymiou joined to share their expertise, making each episode a masterclass in iOS development.
Two guests who left a lasting personal and professional impact on me were Jon Reid and Tjeerd In’t Veen. With them, we delved into topics close to my heart: Test-Driven Development (TDD) and modularization.
One of the most challenging and rewarding episodes was with Bogdan Poplauschi from Romania. We tackled the delicate yet essential topic of refactoring. Bogdan, a seasoned iOS expert and the creator of two popular iOS frameworks, brought a wealth of knowledge and perspective.
The podcast also took me to new horizons, including a discussion about recruitment in iOS development with Mayank Gupta, co-founder of SwiftAnyTime, based in India. His insights into using AI for recruitment and his book on the subject added a fresh dimension to the series.
Perhaps the most eye-opening part of this journey was exploring iOS mobile security. Dave Poirier from Canada joined us for not one but four episodes, diving deep into this critical yet often overlooked topic. Dave’s technical expertise and his incredible personality made these some of the most memorable recordings of the year.
We wrapped up the season with the phenomenal team from objc.io, discussing the art and science of creating animations in SwiftUI—a perfect conclusion to an amazing season.
Presentations and Community Contributions
This year wasn’t just about the podcast. I also had the privilege of delivering an online presentation with my colleague Brahim Lamri for SwiftAnyTime. We shared our experiences on architecture and modularization in large-scale iOS applications, an area I’m deeply passionate about.
The Birth of My First Framework
2024 was also the year I began working on my first public framework, set to launch in early 2025. This project has been an exciting challenge, pushing me to explore cutting-edge technologies like actors, advanced algorithms, and Swift testing. The journey has been as rewarding as it has been educational, and I can’t wait to share it with the community.
A Personal Milestone: A New Chapter in the North
On a personal note, this year ended with a big change for my family and me. We moved from the bustling streets of Paris to a quieter town in northern France. The move symbolizes a new chapter—one that brings balance and tranquility to our lives.
Looking Ahead
As I reflect on this year, I feel immense gratitude. From connecting with brilliant minds across the globe to embarking on new projects and embracing personal changes, 2024 has been nothing short of transformative.
To everyone who has been a part of this journey—thank you. Here’s to an even more exciting 2025, filled with new challenges, collaborations, and growth.
Happy New Year!
